Somali Premier Suspends Spy Chief, President Disapproves

Somalia’s prime minister suspended the intelligence chief, a move the president called unconstitutional.

The suspension of Somalia’s National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) Chief Fahad Yasin comes a day after he declined the Prime Minister’s request to deliver a report within 48 hours concerning the mysterious death of a female NISA officer Ikran Tahlil.

Tahlil went missing more than two months ago.

Somali premier Mohammed Hussein Roble announced he had temporarily removed Yasin and named another official to lead the agency.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo revoked the suspension, saying the move was unconstitutional.

The opposition politicians and presidential candidates have welcomed the suspension of Yasin.
