Four Killed in Hotel Attack in Southern Somalia

Four people were killed during a six-hour hotel attack in the port city of Kismayo, southern Somalia. Somali militant group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the Sunday attack.

A police officer Mohamed Hassan said regional security forces have taken control of the hotel.

“The situation has returned to normal. All three attackers are dead. The security forces are in control of the situation,” Hassan said.

The terror group attack began with a car explosion outside the Tawakal hotel, followed by a gunfight. Somali officials say they rescued hotel guests.

The al-Qaida-linked terror group continues to carry out attacks against government forces and civilians across the country. The group is fighting to overthrow the Somali government.
