At least ten people were killed and dozens injured, including a minister in a hotel in Mogadishu popular with government officials and politicians.

The Villa Rose Hotel in Mogadishu, a walking distance from the presidential palace, came under attack on Sunday night. The country’s interior minister Ahmed Mohamed Doodishe was injured in the attack.

The militant group’s fighters stormed the hotel armed with explosives and guns. An unknown number of armed men engaged in gun fights with the government forces until Monday.

Security forces rescued dozens of government officials and civilians. Some people are still trapped inside the hotel.

The insurgent group claimed responsibility for the attack.
