Al Shabaab militants seized Qayib village in the central Galgudud region on Monday morning after storming a base belonging to Somali soldiers and allied clan militia in the area, Pro-Al Shabaab website reports.

According to Somali Memo, a website affiliated with the militant group Al Shabaab, fighters from the group seized weapons and vehicles from Somali troops.

The Somali government denied losing the village to the insurgents and claimed that the army repelled an attack on the base.

On October 25, the Somali national army and local militia liberated the Qayib village from Al Shabaab.

The Somali intelligence agency (NISA) said that it killed 21 militants and injured dozens in an operation in the Galka Salimow area of the Lower Shabelle region on Sunday.

Since August, the government army and clan militias have been fighting Al Shabaab in the south and central regions.
